Due to the demands of our increasingly busy lives many people become less active after their 30's.  Living a more sedentary life is a mistake because as we age our natural strength, fitness and energy start to decline and this physical deterioration can reduce our options. Life becomes less full and our health can be compromised.

SecondhalfActive is dedicated to helping people who have made a smart choice to keep strong and fit and to say no to physical decline. We are passionate about promoting a more active lifestyle. We believe in unleashing our natural athleticism, being outside with nature, and keeping our minds and bodies strong and healthy to take the opportunities that life has to offer. 

Our philosophy at SecondhalfActive is that everyone, no matter their age, can enjoy a fuller and healthier life after 40 and continue to build superior strength, fitness and range of movement. Having trained both elite athletes and those in their 80's we know it can be done. You were given an amazing body - let it continue to allow you to thrive.

How we can help you

We offer intelligent, evidence based, progressive, exercise programmes designed for the over 40s and to support active, playful lives. By training to a structured, consistent method, progress is guaranteed and you will, depending on your priorities, get stronger and improve both your mobility and conditioning. If you engage in sports you will become more resistant to injury and your performance may improve. Personal Training sessions take place in the SecondhalfActive gym in Harpenden, Hertfordshire. Group Strength and Mobility sessions hosted on Zoom for those wishing to train remotely.

Whatever your goals, the good news is that our bodies are designed for action, movement and play. To a large degree, our potential is unlimited and capped only by our own beliefs of what is possible. We will help you challenge those beliefs and fully explore that potential by:

 

Training appropriately - sessions are tailored to individual needs and aim to complement your other physical activities whilst allowing for adequate recovery. 

Supporting and motivating you - training in an encouraging, caring and inspirational environment. Personal Training clients train in a private, new, well equipped indoor and outdoor training area. You can even create your own playlist.  Online clients have access to a coach at all times. 

Working hard and smart - yes, training can be tiring, but it should make you feel more energetic once you have recovered and not leave you exhausted. We aim to keep your time in the gym to a minimum by ensuring everything you do counts. 

Having fun - you’ll be working hard exercising, we’ll be working hard to make sure the experience is an enjoyable and rewarding one

Training safely - we take a safe and structured approach to building fitness at the right pace for you. Most of our clients are not looking to set weight lifting records, but those that want to take a more aggressive approach to pushing their limits may do so with good technique under a watchful eye. 

Delivering value - our goal is to provide benefit to you above and beyond what you can do for yourself. We will continue to learn and improve our training based on science and proven techniques. We aim to get better so you can too.
